Established under the East Dallas Cooperative Parish in 1994, the English Language Ministry provides quality English as a Second Language instruction in order to promote responsible self-sufficiency. We have partnered with three other congregations to support ELM, which currently resides at East Dallas Christian Church. The students are taught by qualified volunteers, and the program is focused on helping women and children. Research shows the single greatest indicator of a child's achievement in school is the literacy level of the mother. ELM is open to all races, religions, and cultures; however, 98% of ELM students are Hispanic. The ministry takes students from the lowest literacy levels, with the goal of reaching a 5th grace literacy level. ELM enrolls roughly 140 adults and 45 children each semester. On average, students attend ELM for three years.
Not only do we help ELM with our financial support, our pastor and three of our members are on the Board of Directors! For more information about this wonderful ministry and how you can support it, please click the link below.
