One of the assumptions looming in today's society is this:
I can be a Christian without joining a church.
Is it true?
The short answer is, yes. But it begs another question:
Is this really what God wants?
Christians gain so much from church membership: a sense of belonging (fellowship), affirmation, a place to use one's gifts, religious education, Word and Sacrament, and a communal sense of discernment. And these are just a few of them!
We do not believe God calls Christians to exclusively practice "Lone Ranger Spirituality" but rather to be a vital and active member of the living, breathing, Body of Christ -- the universal Church.
If all were a single member, where would the body be? I Corinthians 12:19
So, how does one become a Christian?
We believe this is a result of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and acceptance of his Lordship in all of life. Baptism and a public profession of faith in Jesus as Lord are the visible signs of entrance into the universal Church.
How does one join a particular church like St. Andrew's Presbyterian?
In our denomination, people may enter into active church membership by one of three ways:
1. by profession of faith
2. by reaffirmation of faith in Jesus the Christ
3. by letter of transfer from some other church
If you are feeling God calling you to membership at SAPC (and we hope you do!), please contact Rev. Rob Leischner at your earliest convenience. He'll get the process started!
