Why Membership?

What’s so important about church membership?

There are many believers in today’s society who think:  I can be a Christian without going to church.

Is it true?

The short answer is, yes.  But it begs another question:  Is this really what God wants?

Christians gain so much from church membership:  a sense of belonging (fellowship), affirmation, another place to use one’s talents, religious education, Word and Sacrament, and a communal sense of discernment.  And these are just a few!

Jesus himself was involved in a faith community.  If he found benefit in this, then we should, too.  We do not believe God calls Christians to practice “Lone Ranger spirituality” but rather to be vital and active members of a congregation.

If all were a single member, where would the body be?  I Corinthians 12:19

How do I become a Christian?

We believe this is a result of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and acceptance of his Lordship in all of life.  Baptism and a public profession of faith in Jesus as Lord are the visible signs of becoming a Christian.

How do I join St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church?

In our denomination, people enter into active membership by one of three ways:
1.  Baptism
2.  Reaffirmation of faith
3.  Letter of transfer from another church
